T: Good morning, my dear pupils! It’s a great pleasure for me to see your smiling faces at the moment. Are you ready to work hard today?
- Well, then you may take your seat and let me start our exciting English class!
T: First of all, I’d like you to look at the screen.
- There you will see some useful pictures, which will help you to understand what we are going to speak about today.
- Let’s analyze them together.
- What is the man doing in the picture? What is he using to cook the dish?
- Let’s read the definition of this new word and translate.
- Well, as you understand, to cook a good dish, you need a good recipe.
- Now, look at these colorful pictures, think about the food you like eating and say - what is your favourite dish?
- You know, it sounds really tasty. I’d like to cook some of your favourite dishes, but I don’t know how to make them, guys. I think, you will have to teach me.
- That’s why today you will learn to write recipes.
- But at the very beginning, I want to show you a video letter from my best friend – Ann.
- She lives in Minsk and she has a problem. Watch her video letter and answer the questions from the board.
Questions:
T: I think, we can help Ann and share some really good recipes with her at the end of the lesson.
T: Well, guys, before we get started to perform the aims of our English class, it’s necessary to train our tongues a little bit.
- For this, we will play a phonetics game in 2 teams. One by one, the members of each team should read the tongue-twister from the screen.
- If you don’t make any phonetic mistakes, your team will get a point. At the end of the game we will count your points and define the winner.
- But first, let’s practice in reading of this tongue-twister together. (by parts, all at once)
- A good cook can cook as much cookies as a good cook could cook cookies.
- So, let’s play and learn the names of the best tongue-twisters readers.
- Well done! I really enjoyed playing with you, it was fun!
T: As we’re going to speak about cooking food, I’d like you to share some interesting facts about yourself.
- Please, work in pairs and discuss 2 simple questions from the screen. Write your partner’s answers on your pieces of paper.
- Get ready to tell about each other. Use the help box.
T: To be able to tell a recipe, you should know some useful words. Look at the screen again. There you can see 10 pictures and 10 new active verbs.
- Your task is to match the pictures with the words. (on pieces of paper). You have 1 minute for this.
- Let’s check your work. One by one, please, go to the board, take a picture and put it under the correct word. Read a word, and try to translate the word into Russian.
T: Great! Now we know all necessary words to tell different recipes. Let’s work out their pronunciation and practice them in some exercises.
- First, I’d like you to say when we do these things. For this, please fill in the gaps with our new active words in these 7 sentences. (on your pieces of paper)
- Ok, now I will give you the cards with a new task.
- You should sort out the foods from the box into 7 columns. (Example: We can peel…)
T: Finally, guys, it’s time to play a funny game to relax a little bit and check how well you have remembered our active words.
- We will play a very famous game that is called "Crocodile".
- The rules are simple:

T: Well, guys, it’s high time to read a real recipe. For this, find ex.4a on the page 134 in your PBs. There you can see Alex’s e-mail to Kate.
- Read the e-mail attentively and say:
T: Read the letter again, fill in the gaps with our active verbs to make the recipe clear. One verb is extra.
- Write on your pieces of paper. You have 2 minutes.
- So, now you know the recipe of potato pancakes. Let’ make it shorter.
- For this work on your pieces of paper and put the directions in the correct order.
T: Well, at the very beginning of the lesson I told you about my best friend Ann and her problem.
- Let’s quickly remember what problem she has and what help she needs.
- Exactly so. She wants to cook something yummy for the party. Let’s share some good recipes with her.
- For this you will work in 3 groups, I’ll give you the cards with the ingredients of some popular dishes.
- You should write the quantities of foods and the directions for making the dish. You have 3 minutes.
- Thank you for your recipes They are great! I’m sure, Ann will like them.
T: Our lesson is going to the end. Today we have learnt to write recipes.
- And now I’d like you to estimate your work and answer the following question "Can you write the recipe of your favourite dish now?"
